HDPE Drainage Pipe
When water freezes solid in a HDPE pipe, it will not rupture it, but the pipe will expand with the ice. Obviously, the application of heat to the frozen section is really the only practical way to thaw it. But for safety considerations, and to avoid damage to the pipe, this must be done very carefully. One method is heat tracing. This involves wrapping the affected area with pressure sensitive metallic tape over which is wrapped temperature limited heat tracing tape.
The metallic tape helps distribute heat evenly over the pipe surface. Heat blankets are also available, however torches or arc welders should not be used to thaw HDPE pipe.
What Percentage of External Surface Scratching or Scarring is Allowable on HDPE Pipe?
Scarring to a maximum depth of 10% of the pressure pipe wall thickness is generally tolerable. In fact, minor scratches or scuffing will not impair serviceability . And the pipe with gouges or cuts in excess of 10 percent of the product wall thickness should not normally be used.
How to Repair HDPE Pipe If the Ditch is Full of Water?
If the ditch can be dewatered and the pipe dried off, fusion repair may be used. Otherwise a mechanical repair is recommended.

Thermal welding: During thermal welding, the temperature must reach 210±10°C, and care should be taken to avoid burning;
Buried: When working in a pipe trench, necessary safety measures must be considered;
Test: It is recommended to use water as the pressure test medium. When testing, measures should be taken to prevent pipeline movement or damage.
Positioning: Polyethylene materials cannot be controlled by magnetic positioning equipment. Other methods can be used to detect polyethylene pipelines, including tracers, marking tapes, detection tapes, line markings, electronic marking systems and voice-controlled pipeline tracking methods.
Air pressure: HDPE pipes cannot be used in the field of high-pressure gas transportation.
Static electricity: HDPE pipes are often accompanied by high static electricity. In the case of flammable and explosive gas, corresponding measures should be taken to eliminate static electricity.
Impact performance: PE pipe has good impact resistance. Use a hammer to hit the pipe. It should be noted that the pipe will produce a certain resilience.
Coil: The small diameter HDPE pipe of the coil stores energy like a spring. If the packaging tape is cut, it will produce a greater resilience.
Storage: If the pipes must be stacked and stored, they should avoid excessively high stacking, and they should be stacked directly. If the pipes are not properly stacked, the pipes may be deformed.
Weight: Although HDPE pipes are lighter than other traditional pipes, they still have a certain weight, so care should be taken when handling and construction.
Unloading: The correct unloading facilities must be used, and all tools used for handling shall be checked whether they meet the requirements.
